Following the masterstroke of 1981’s Who’s To Know, Shankar lent the wonders of his 10-string electric violin to those of his ECM labelmates, saxophonist Jan Garbarek and trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg, in this cosmic foray. Even though the constant flanging of Shankar’s custom instrument sometimes wear thin, the melodies he nurtures make up for such technical concerns. The pizzicato strains of “All For You” are particularly ebullient, stretching like a landscape for the horn players’ shadows to traverse. More of a grower than a shower, perhaps, but a worthy stopover for the itinerant listener.
