Skin I'm In

Released

1974’s ‘Skin I’m In’ was released when the Chairmen of the Board had already commercially peaked but is arguably their finest album. Featuring musicians from the Parliament/Funkadelic camp, this is essentially a Parliament/Funkadelic album fronted by the Chairmen. The title track is a brooding, dark jam ruminating on racism while most of side 1 is taken up with a unique four-track psychedelic soul medley. Hammond organ, mellotron, wah-wah guitar, unearthly percussion breaks, Moog synth flourishes, it’s got it all. The album finishes on heavily delayed Moog synth crescendo in a perfect moment of psychedelic soul.
