Black Heat

Released

The 1972 Atlantic album from seven-piece funk outfit Black Heat was their debut, the first of three albums for Atlantic, and it delivered ten tracks of organ-heavy funk and brooding soul. Featuring plenty of swooping horn lines, wah-wah guitar, congas and jazz flute solos, the album ranges from psychedelic instrumentals and vocal funk jams to deeper soul ballads, all written by US jazz trumpeter Phillip Guilbeau. Black Heat’s funk was characterised by complex arrangements and rich, intricate instrumentation. A rediscovered funk classic.
