2002’s Futureperfect found VNV Nation in a bit of an odd place where as an album it may be more admirable than wall-to-wall great, but there are more than enough individual moments of absolute pinnacles that make it one of Ronan Harris’s best efforts regardless, the time when he came up with the term futurepop for his electronic fusions. Besides an instrumental that became a live standard for many years, “Electronaut,” other top level tracks include the uplifting conclusion “Airships,” the defiant “Fearless” and especially an incredible and truly anthemic ballad, the soaring “Beloved.”
