Breaking Atoms

Released

Large Professor split the hip-hop atom with this debut album, unleashing his massive energy as a staggeringly talented MC/producer and crafting a timeless classic in the process. Though primarily known as a master beatmaker these days, don’t discount Extra P’s facility on the mic. “Snake Eyes” is an inventive table-setting introduction, “Looking At The Front Door” is one of hip-hop’s great lost love anthems, “Just A Friendly Game of Baseball” a clever and subtle examination of civil rights. It must also be said that the classic posse cut “Live at The Barbecue” contains the recorded debut of Nasty Nas, and his verse is a preview of the detailed writing that he would later perfect on his debut album Illmatic. This is a truly excellent album filled with tremendously chopped sample-based beats, incisive writing, and the fallout still affects the sound of rap music to this day.
