Witchi-Tai-To cover

An instant classic from saxophonist Jan Garbarek, pianist Bobo Stenson, bassist Palle Danielsson, and drummer Jon Christensen. Long regarded as Garbarek’s masterpiece yet often lost in the translation of later efforts, Witchi-Tai-To works its magic across a wide range of tunes drawn from beyond the quartet’s borders, including Carla Bley’s “A.I.R.,” Carlos Puebla’s politically charged “Hasta Siempre,” and Don Cherry’s “Desireless” (the latter closing out the set with 20 minutes of incendiary lamentations). Yet it’s the rhythm section that shines the brightest light to illuminate every twist and turn of this sonic Möbius strip.
