Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love?

Released

Kara Jackson’s 2023 debut album makes for a striking statement of purpose, an on-the-face-of it singer/songwriter release that’s much more of a balance of quiet intensity, serene contemplation, subtly rich production and stripped down rough edges all combined. Jackson’s rich, warm voice helps deliver sharp sentiments on songs like “therapy,” “no fun/party” and “rat,” while the complex structures and arrangements on its many longer pieces like “dickhead blues,” “curtains,” “free” and the title track show her creative ambition succeeding time and again.
