After leading a band named after her for a couple of albums, arguably this is when Polly Jean Harvey first went totally solo beyond her respective demo collections for said releases. But what a way to do so: with the slow building of the title track coming across as both invocation and initial command, Harvey claimed the haunted sonic constructions of performers like Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart and Nick Cave for herself in full.
