The Illusion of Motion

The word “Yob” just sounds heavy before you even get to anything else about the band. Surprise: the music matches their name. Although Mike Scheidt and his various collaborators got more ambitious later on – tackling weighty subjects like spirituality and Scheidt’s battle with cancer – their sophomore sledgehammer still feels the most immediately satisfying. “Molten Ball of Lead” matches the density of its namesake, “Doom #2” creates hell on earth, and the title track slowly pulls you into its gravity well for the entirety of its 26-minute run time.
