The Godz

Released

Not too hard to guess what the Casablanca-distributed Millennium were hoping for from The Godz (not to be confused with the ESP-Disk act from a decade prior), but these particular knights in Satan’s service didn’t have the cosmetics to make their heavy rock dressed to kill. Doesn’t mean they didn’t have the tunes. Produced by Grand Funk Railroad’s spike-driver Don Brewer, the Ohio quartet played ballsy biker rock that belied the pretensions of their name. “Gotta Keep a’ Runnin’” remains their most enduring contribution to FM radio history, an Aerosmith-inspired runaway train that builds up steam right through its spoken word section before smashing right through the walls of Olympus.
