The Fragile

Released

Sprawling, intense, brooding, downright self-loathing at points, The Fragile seemed like Trent Reznor’s careful album-length construction evident in The Downward Spiral had turned into uncontrollable, endless flow, more The Wall than even Pink Floyd’s original effort. But the hints of his increasing interest in instrumental performances that would eventually lead to his many soundtrack commissions were evident, while songs like “Into the Void,” a twisted kind of gospel stomp, again showcased his knack for hooks.
