People often fear jazz because they fear that the improvisers are thinking and feeling things beyond everyday comprehension, which is not generally the case. An album like this one helps make clear that jazz musicians just want a little room and they don’t want the record exec complaining about hits but they don’t want anything different than you and me. With saxophonist Joshua Redman helping out, the original Bad Plus line up (Reid, King, Iverson) makes a steady, beautiful space for listening and sitting with the feeling of the moment. These are sturdy melodies and supple time-keeping, and lots of room for a human being to catch it all.
