Tales of the Unexpected

Released

Formed in Canberra, Australia in 1981, The Lighthouse Keepers were one of the more unique groups in Australia’s independent music scene – while there’s a jangliness to their sound that suggests a nascent vision of the C86/shambling movement, their songs are just as steeped in country and folk. On 1984’s Tales Of The Unexpected, their debut (and only) album, the songs glow thanks to singer Juliet Ward’s unaffected delivery, and the collective’s playing gently, but assuredly supports the happy-sad tenor of the group’s warm, understated songs.
