An affecting and original sonic portrait of modernity’s most beloved and scrutinized royal. Greenwood leverages his wide-ranging taste to great effect, showing a particular knack for stylistic juxtaposition. The most brilliant instance of this is on the opening track, “Arrival,” which features a brilliant crossfade between a morose Baroque theme and Elevator to the Gallows-style jazz. The move, along with much of the rest of the score, highlights the cluster of historical and psychological dissonances in which Diana found herself.
