Even Julian Cope admitted he didn’t know the names of anybody in this quintet,  and that makes sense. There are no instrumental innovators here and there is no overall style. What Faust did was take the idea of rock bands, in general, as they existed, and swing them around their heads like a rag. They play well, they play badly, they make sense, they make noise, they write charts, they tape together bits of tape, they sing, they growl, they seem to mean it while never meaning it? I often think this is like a German version of Laugh In.
