To say that Hazel Adkins was, to put it mildly, not one for living by certain more widely accepted societal standards is an understatement, though he was equally aware that his wild man from the mountains vibe definitely got him both notoriety and wider attention. But if he didn’t deliver the goods he would only be a rumor, and Out to Hunch serves as a solid sampling of his frenetic one-man attempts to keep rockabilly alive, filthy and utterly compelling. Starting with “She Said” out of the gate is hard to follow, but the collection manages it.
