It was a match made in heaven: legendary roots reggae singer Cornell Campbell — at this point more than fifty years into an illustrious career — with the brilliant Zion I Kings band, creating a dark, smoky, and deeply dread program of old-school roots-and-culture material. Apart from one unfortunate imprecation against “Evil Woman,” the songs are a perfect blend of warnings to Babylon and invitations to come unto God, to weed out vampires, and to eschew violence. Campbell’s voice may have lost a bit of its famous high register, but it’s lost none of its sweetness and power.
