Love in a Vicious Way

The 2023 debut album by Toronto duo Mother Tongues makes for an enjoyably promising start for the shoegaze-into-electronic indie pop duo, with Charise Aragoza’s bass and vocals and Lukas Cheung’s guitar work the basis for a series of engaging songs. Aragoza’s singing is of the more understated variety but still clearer than many similar bands that would let the vocals sink into the mix, and both blasts of heavier riffs as on “Dance In The Dark” and stripped back Cure-like moodiness on the title track show a solid initial range to build on for the future.
