Last and First Men [Original Soundtrack]

Released

The sadly missed Jóhann Jóhannsson has a huge and deep catalogue of releases, both standalone and as soundtracks, but perhaps the most perfectly realised expression of his aesthetic was this collaboration with fellow composer and double bassist Glotman, for Jóhannssons’s posthumously released sole project as a movie director himself. The film is a meditation on memory and mortality — themes which were a constant in Jóhannsson’s work — set in the far future, and the bottomless drones, soft textures and endlessly dissipating sounds take you to a place of deep meditation on those themes. It is endlessly absorbing and profoundly beautiful.
