Some DJs you can tell did a lot of planning before they hit the decks publicly, and that was clearly the case with DIE/ASPORA, the alias of Minneapolis promoter and spinner Cristian Ybarra. Equally adept at darkwave, hyperpop, and sunshine house, they’ve made 2021 seem like a far better year for Twin Cities nightlife than it probably was. DIE/ASPORA’s February volume of the stellar Kajunga Program series of mixes by local and regional artists is one of its most loose-limbed, lightly psychedelicized, and bewitching, the work of someone besotted with dance music’s past even as they hold its future in their hands.
