Goldfall

Released

On Goldfall, Andrew Chalk pulls back the subtle layering that goes on in much of his contemporaneous music to reveal its core – translucent and weightless, the first track here is just piano, blurred and lost in reverberant space. The composition here isn’t so much about lines or motifs as it is hushed, hesitant explorations across the keys, which gives it an unhurried, unfussy air, and the mottled, hissy recording has it sounding like you’re listening through a shroud. On the second track, Chalk flips the tape – playing it backwards, the decaying piano tones reverse, and become apparitions drifting into view.
