When word first went around in the 2000s that Franz Ferdinand and Sparks were planning a collaboration of some sort, it seemed like the kind of random idea that wouldn’t ever play out, but a chance meeting in San Francisco in the 2010s meant the groups got serious and made it happen. FFS, as concept, album and tour, was a moment in 2015 time but a lovely and often hilarious one, the blend of Sparks’s sui generis melodic and lyrical bent and Franz Ferdinand’s crisp rock and roll punch evident on songs like “Johnny Delusional,” “Piss Off” and of course “Collaborations Don’t Work.”
