Siblings Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger funnel their brand of melody whiplash into EP, a 41 minute release compiling old singles and new songs, all ten of them brimming with as many ideas as songs can legally carry. The beat-poet-by-way-of-Mick Jagger Eleanor expertly delivers line after line of expertly detailed tongue-twisters and half-remembered stories, all over music that ranges from dark electro (“Single Again”) to beautifully sunny pop (“Here Comes The Summer,” “Tropical-Iceland”) to the duo’s brand of Who-esque mini-rock operas (“Duffer St. George”). If you’re looking for an entry point to the Furnaces I really can’t recommend anything better.
