DonatoDeodato documents a stellar meeting between two of the busiest Brazilian expats operating in the United States in the 1970s, João Donato and Eumir Deodato, with crack players like Ray Barretto, Airto, and Randy Brecker rounding out the tentet. Slinky, winding “Capricorn” highlights Brecker’s tasty trumpet and Mauricio Einhorn’s harmonica while bright bouncer “Where’s J.D.” teeters on the delirious thanks to the incessant wah-wah effects of guitar and organ. It’s a thirty-minute outing (oft-times filed as an EP) that feels as rich and transportive as a seven course meal.
