The mix of Richard Thompson’s sharp-witted folk and the jangle pop of The Feelies, Felt and The Go-Betweens minted on Cardiff’s The Tubs debut album is so on point it’s a wonder no one else thought of doing it sooner. The vocal similarities between Thompson and former Joanna Gruesome guitarist Owen ‘O’ Williams are uncanny at times, but it’s the sheer force of the Tubs’ songs which make Dead Meat such a breathlessly enjoyable listen, songs such as “Round The Bend,” “Illusion pt. II” and “Wretched Lie” sparkling with a verve and skill that easily transcends the source material.
