Christina Vantzou, Michael Harrison And John Also Bennett

This year was all about just intonation, and on this trio album, it’s Michael Harrison’s piano that has been freed from Western mathematical tyranny. Bennett works in the synths and Vantzou plays musical director. It’s a lot like Eno’s Ambient One in terms of pacing and the shape of the phrases, each one surrounded by rivers of near-silence. The extra sound is subtle enough that this largely operates as a solo piano album with just the slightest burning and twisting at the edges.
