This Chicago-based noise-punk trio+ (three men and a drum machine) made some of the most sonically and lyrically abrasive music of the ’80s. Songs on Atomizer “addressed” racism, police corruption, child abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, etc. by rubbing the listener’s face in them. Steve Albini spat out the lyrics like they were burning the roof of his mouth as the music laid shrill, jagged guitars over thundering bass. This is a monster of an album that sounds better the louder you play it; “Kerosene” is his version of Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold.”
