Another Taste II

Released

Rotterdam-based band Another Taste make contemporary post-disco / boogie / electro-soul: think a 21st century take on the dancefloor jams of the Prelude / West End / Salsoul labels. Their second album gives you eight tracks, all dancefloor material, all crafted from  the familiar sonic material of early ’80’s soul — the particular synth timbres and recognisable grooves of artists like Leroy Burgess, D-Train, and Patrice Rushen, all expertly merged with live drums, bass, brass and guitars. It’s a faithful recreation that ranges from high tempo jazz fusion-y stormers to slinky laid back drum-machine-soul, with the songs built from Roy Ayers sunny-yet-tense fusion chords, and Burgess gospel-soul piano progressions, and with super-slick playing, vocals and production all the way through. Great album neatly proving that generic music, that doesn’t really do anything new, can be superb.
